#38 Such a Pain in the Big Toe

It’s been awhile since I shared a personal embarrassing story with you all so I thought I’d bring that back today. I’m writing this as I sit by the fireplace with my big toe in a bowl of warm salty water.

I’ve been struggling big time with an ingrown toenail. After a couple weeks I finally had to take it to the professionals and scheduled an appointment with a podiatrist. I show up ready to get this sucker out of my toe. The doctor told me it was looking pretty bad… one of the weirdest cases of an ingrown toenail he’s ever seen <3

He said because of covid they have a shortage of the anesthesia he likes to use. They had something else but apparently it hadn’t been as effective as he would have liked… fab.

So he puts up a shield between me and my toe so I can’t watch the horror unfold. He gave me 2 shots in my toe to numb it and I gotta say it was pretty uncomfortable but I took it well as I’ve been experiencing a high volume of pain the last 6 months or so (see Life West and Endodontists).

Anyways, the doctor starts going in for the kill and holy heck, it hurt SO BADLY. I was laughing, I was grunting, I was taking deep breaths hoping I would not pass out on the chair yet again. Sorry to get graphic with the details but I need you to understand the pain I was experiencing - he had to cut both sides of my toenail all the way down to the nail bed. I’m starting to sweat and wondering why the universe is testing my tolerance for pain. So he looks at me and says, “You wouldn’t believe what I pulled out of here.” Obviously I’m like “LET ME SEE IT.”

There were straight up daggers you guys. Sharp, pointy daggers that were slowly murdering my dear big toe.

The lesson here is don’t wait!! The longer you wait the more painful and difficult it may be to heal that wound! Whether it’s a pesky ingrown toenail or a closet full of pent up emotions.

Cut your toenails, guys :)

That is all from me today.
